30 Days Wild - 02 June

Today's Random Act of Wildness: Watching the birds soaring through the sky. I waited for the rain to appear today as I was rather looking forward to splashing through puddles. Sadly, no such luck. It was quite windy though, which made going for a walk a lot of fun. Spotted many different birds out enjoying the windy weather and even got a glimpse of a beautiful (and huge!) moon. The birds looked like they were enjoying themselves a great deal - seeing them surfing the winds always makes me wish I could fly, too. Although... Thank God men cannot fly, and lay waste the sky as well as the earth.  ~ Henry David Thoreau It's probably a good thing we can't fly. If humans could fly without the aid of technology, we would no doubt 'conquer' even more of our beautiful planet and turn even the wildest and most inaccessible places into wastelands filled with garbage. 30 Days Wild - 01 June

Today's Random Act of Wildness: Reading a book in the sunshine.  Not very wild, nor all that random. Still, I enjoyed myself and was happy to feel the warmth of the sun shining down on me. I'm reading (well, re-reading) Seize the Fire by Michael A. Martin, the second book in the Star Trek: Typhon Pact series. Not a book about nature or animals, although it does include an interesting alien race called the Gorn who have claws and scales. Perhaps tomorrow I'll hug that tree , although the forecast says it's supposed to rain, so splashing through puddles might be lots more fun!

Thirty Days Wild

Just saw a very inspiring post on Twitter. The Wildlife Trusts (UK) is introducing a #30DaysWild challenge for the month of June. They're encouraging people to spend more time appreciating and enjoying nature this coming month. What an awesome idea for my next Photo Challenge! Or perhaps for a month-long challenge just for me? For the thirty days of June, 30 Days Wild suggests that people commit to giving themselves some time with nature every day, even if it's just a few seconds to smell a flower or appreciate the sunshine. What a lovely idea! As today is May 31st, the challenge starts tomorrow. Devon Wildlife Trust's suggestion for Day 1 is to hug a tree. The #30DaysWild challenge starts tomorrow! What will be your first Random Act of Wildness? We'll be hugging a tree! pic.twitter.com/QLRhZMhzNE — Devon Wildlife Trust (@DevonWildlife) May 31, 2015 As I read those words, my brain thought Hey, I can do that! I've even got a photo to match the theme ...
