Urban Art - Graffiti Collage

Image
Downloaded a trial version of the program Picture Collage Maker and played around with it today while waiting for dinner to be ready. (Yes, I cooked. Gasp! It happens every once in a while. Don't let it alarm you...) The program is easy to use, probably has the simplest Terms and Conditions I've ever read and playing around creating this collage was lots of fun. The (light grey) watermark in the centre of the image disappears once you buy the product. Seeing I quite enjoyed taking these photos and turning them into a collage, this was definitely not a waste of my time! When graffiti / street art / urban art is done in a nice way, I can appreciate it. The big, colourful letters for instance, those I think are 'nice'. When (what I see as) ugly looking tags are added or sprayed over the nice 'pretty' and 'artsy' stuff, that ruins the effect for me and turns art into ugly. In this case, I think it's a pity that the pretty art is covered by me...

Have a Rice Day!

Image
Spotted this message and image of a bowl of rice at a local skate park while out walking during the eclipse back in March. As the sun wasn't exactly shining brightly, the image came out quite dark and has a bit of a post-apocalyptic feel to it. Hope to go back on a sunnier day to take more photos of the funny, colourful and inspirational art on display. For now - I hope you Have a Rice Day and enjoy this photo! Have a Rice Day | Nimavenl

Vincent van Gogh and Doctor Who

Image
One of my favourite artists is Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh (1853 - 1890). Not only did he paint an amazing " Starry Night over the Rhone " and a ridiculously beautiful ("Almond Blossom" also known as) " Blossoming Almond Tree ", he also painted many other stunning works that I love. I'm a big fan of colour in life, in nature and in art, which is why I prefer Vincent van Gogh's more colourful and colour-filled works to the darker ones. The darker paintings are often detailed, intricate and very beautiful indeed (just look at " The Potato Eaters "), yet they don't speak to me the same way the more colourful scenes do. However... “If you truly love nature, you will find beauty everywhere.” I certainly believe that to be true, in real life and in Vincent's paintings too! “ Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is some...

In My Dreams There is Silence - reTweeting Alison Jardine

I logged on to Twitter yesterday and one of the first things I saw was this post by the amazingly talented Alison Jardine. It felt a little like she'd read my mind in writing this captivating caption. Having lived in New Zealand where it is often much quieter than in the middle of Europe, I sometimes miss the connection to nature and to the environment that somehow feels more 'available' there than here. I'll find myself day-dreaming about deserted beaches where all you hear is the sound of the waves, the wind and a few birds in the distance. In my dreams there is silence, indeed! NEW! Favourite Artists and Photographers

I've had a list of links to websites of favourite authors up on my blog for some time now. A list of favourite television series as well. Yet what I realised today is that I don't have any links up to websites / pages of artists and photographers whose work I enjoy. Read an article today about monuments in former Yugoslavia and was amazed by the photos - absolutely loved some of the works! Photography is about more than the subject of course, however when the composition of the photo blows one away just as much as (or perhaps just as far as?) the stunning image itself does, you know you've found a winner. I wanted to share my enthusiasm, wanted to tell others how much I enjoyed the photos. Yet writing a simple blog post didn't quite feel like enough. I wanted to link to this photographer's website, to have that link up on my blog for all to see. Not just when reading a particular post, but always, all the time. So, I'm adding a new list to the sidebar on th...

Van Gogh Awesomeness

Image
Source : The Pandorica Opens , Tardis Data Core I love the work of Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh. I also love, love, love Doctor Who. Combine the two, and you have what is one my most favourite paintings in the world right now... A van Gogh style rendering of the Tardis exploding. How cool is that ??? !!! ??? !!! As I've got tomorrow off, I figured I deserved some quality time with my good friend Google. Had a proper geek-happy moment on visiting the pages below showing van Gogh versions of superhero / sci-fi / modern culture images. Doctor Who and Vincent van Gogh

Image
Source : Doctor Who Christmas Cards at the BBC website  Awesome picture !!!!! I love the works of Vincent van Gogh and being both a Doctor Who fan and  a Vincent fan, I absolutely loved the Vincent and the Doctor episode (season 5) where Amy and the Doctor paid a visit to Provence to help Vincent fight an alien creature. Simply had to share this picture... Will have to remember where exactly I found it and link to it!
