Review of The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone

Image
The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet by Alicia Silverstone My rating: 5 of 5 stars Enjoyed reading this book and checking out the recipes. Before starting to read, I already agreed with a lot of what Alicia Silverstone says about the way we eat, what we put in our own bodies and the way we (humans) treat, use and abuse other living beings. A lot of what this book explains makes sense to me and sounds very logical. Still, I'm not an expert on nutrition or anything like that, so judge for yourself! I highly recommend reading The Kind Diet, if only because it's important that we all think about what we eat and where our food really comes from. View all my reviews Goodreads may not be the place to share my thoughts on eating meat or consuming dairy, however my personal blog - most definitely the right place! I'm not much of a meat-eater myself. Would say I'm about 95% vegetarian, actually. If not more than that...

Note To Self...

Note To Self: Use knife to cut vegetables, not to slice finger. 2nd Note To Self: Tomatoes good. Tomato sauce good. Hey why is it red I didn't spill any tomato there... Oh wait because I cut my finger. .. Blood sauce bad. 3rd Note To Self: When cooking, the pot on the stove with boiling water in it is hot. Hot means auchie ow auw ow = bad. Really: Duh. Remember not to to touch. 4th Note To Self: Walking away from kitchen while cooking is not advised. Sitting down to write notes to self is fine, usually, just not when it makes you forget about stirring. 5th Note To Self: Remember note number three. And for crying out loud, don't pick up a hot pot with your bare hands, you will hurt your fingers. 6th Note To Self: That pot holder hanging on the hook by the stove... Use it... 7th Note To Self: No, that cloud does not look like Drogon. Really, it doesn't. Which doesn't mean it wouldn't be cool to ride a ... Cooking! You're cooking! Stop dreaming ...

Have a Rice Day!

Image
Spotted this message and image of a bowl of rice at a local skate park while out walking during the eclipse back in March. As the sun wasn't exactly shining brightly, the image came out quite dark and has a bit of a post-apocalyptic feel to it. Hope to go back on a sunnier day to take more photos of the funny, colourful and inspirational art on display. For now - I hope you Have a Rice Day and enjoy this photo! Have a Rice Day | Nimavenl

I think I'm in love...

With Vegan Ice Cream Snickers... Honestly, I think I may be in love. If it's possible to be in love with chocolate. And ice cream. And peanuts. And dates. These vegan ice cream Snickers bars don't just look amazing, they sound super-delicious too! Check out the recipe over at the Minimalist Baker website (where this screen capture came from). They have more amazing photos too that just make me want to climb into my screen to get to the chocolate! Vegan Ice Cream Snickers | Minimalist Baker

Happy Belated International Hummus Day!

Reading an article in yesterday's online Israel National News, I am now aware that something called "International Hummus Day" exists. It was celebrated yesterday, on the 13th of May. It sounds vaguely familiar, something tells me I probably had a similar reaction to the news this time last year. I like hummus. I only wish I'd known about International Hummus Day sooner, would've made a point of eating hummus on the day. Apparently "Nutella Day" is also a real thing. Thanks for letting me know, article. Again, I learnt something new. Seriously - what will we come up with next? Days on which we celebrate peanut butter, cheese or chocolate? Bread? Eggs? Milk? Cake? Perhaps days like that already exist and I just don't know about them? As the supermarket is closing early today due to it being some sort of special day on the Christian calendar I didn't know about until learning the supermarket would close early, I am doubly sorry I missed Intern...

Fish Fingers and Custard !

Image
Source: DeviantART While browsing the web looking for cute / funny / silly Doctor Who related images, I came across something I'd not seen before. Fish fingers and custard jewellery!  After some very excited fan girl jumping up and down while squealing like a girl (well, not quite due to my heart but close... sort of...) I realised that this was one more for the blog as I simply * have to * share the amazingness!  Source: Etsy The first image from Deviant ART (by way of Google) is a set, which I love. When enjoying the coolness of fish fingers and custard, why not enjoy it in threefold? Also very cool that all three 'bowls' look slightly different.  The second image which is from Etsy (also sourced through Google, of course!) is pretty much the same but slightly different from the earlier three 'bowls' which is why I've included it. I like the silver chain better than the black cord and the third fish finger covered in custard is a cute...

Police Boxes

So sue me, I'm in the mood for Doctor Who / Torchwood related trivia, photos, spoilers, screencaps and set shots... My Good Friend Google provided me with lots of interesting stuff today !!! I'm not much for baking myself these days, however that's mostly because my baking tends to be random, strange and definitely not something I need to expose others too... Ever tried making a peanutbutter-and-honey cake? No? Well, I have. Start with your basic chocolate cake recipe, change it so you don't recognise the original any more, pop it in the oven and enjoy... Or try a couscous, honey and pine nut stuffing inside Moroccan bread... Actually, should try that again some time, I really enjoyed that particular recipe. Anyway, back on topic, here are some cool links to awesome Doctor Who cakes and cake-baking websites: Check out this recipe for a Tardis cake at Do It Myself... Awesome pics! Cool Doctor Who cakes at Cake Wrecks - Love the Tom Baker tribute! Also very...

Where our meat comes from

Home by chance on a Wednesday night, I happened to come across an ad for a TV program that looked interesting. I decided to see if the show would deliver what it promised, and BOY, did it ever. I'm not really one for cooking, and much prefer a simple meal to a fancy occasion with more cutlery than I know what to do with. Well actually - I do know what to do with the cutlery, I simply choose not to use that much cutlery and to go for simple, easy and non-pretentious. I’m also not a big meat eater. This comes partly from personal preference, partly from religious reasons, and partly from living a good few years without the money to afford meat as a regular part of my diet. I'm not a strict vegetarian, however when given the choice do prefer non-meat to meat. The TV show was a cooking show that took celebrities along to the places their food comes from. Tonight’s show saw two celebrities visit an organic farm, a deer-breeding facility where they fed and petted two gorgeo...
