Lethal Legacy - Linda Fairstein
I'm currently reading Linda Fairstein's latest book called Legal Legacy. She is one of my favourite authors, and I look forward to reading her books each and every time. For the author's website, check my links on the right. For a description of the book and the characters in it, go there too.
In a nutshell, Ms Fairstein writes fiction based loosely on her own experiences as Assistant District Attorney for Manhattan's Sex Crimes Prosecution Unit in New York City. The main character of all her books, Alexandra Cooper, holds the same job. In this book, Alex investigates the death of a woman with connections to the New York Public Library, and the readers get taken inside the amazingly intricate world of the library system, book collectors and antique maps.
Having worked as a librarian myself and being a total book lover, I really loved reading a book set in and around a library, and enjoyed learning more about a different side of the library business than the one I am familiar with. I worked at the Reference department of a two-branch library catering to a medium-sized town in New Zealand. I dealt with old books and maps, however nothing as valuable as the items described in Legal Legacy. Also, the library system described in this book caters to a city many times larger and with many, many more inhabitants which means their collection is about a gazillion times bigger than the one I'm used to!
The story features some really interesting books and authors, many that I know and a lot of others that I'd either never heard of or never investigated, and I'll be adding all of them to my "To Read' list. As the list of books I'd like to read is a great deal larger than the list of books I have read, I have absolutely no idea if and when I'll ever get to these books, however as long as they're on my list I'm sure I'll read them or at least learn more about them at some point.
I can rant and rave about this book and give you a hundred reasons why I think it's awesome and you should read it, however that's not quite my style. I like this book, and I wanted to share that with the world. Having done that, I do want to recommend Linda Fairstein's books to anyone who enjoys books by Kathy Reichs, John Grisham and other authors who combine on the job experience with the ability to write amazing stories! Having written this, I am now going back to reading my book!
