Twilight´s Dawn - Anne Bishop

I´ve just finished reading Twilight´s Dawn, the latest book in Anne Bishop´s Black Jewels series.

I was hesitant about reading the book, and especially hesitant about the last story in it, as I knew what it would hold before going into it. However I did not expect to be so captivated and so moved by it. By the whole book, actually.

I´ve been a fan of these books for over a decade now (my, how time flies!), and have looked forward to each and every new book that comes out. I read the books as hard copy at least twice a year and listen to the books on my iPod. They make me smile and laugh and grin and cry and think about life and the wonderful world we live in - both the real word around us and the various fantasy worlds created in stories. And this book, while I hoped I would love it, I wasn't completely sure about before starting it.

Having read the book, I am partly relieved, and partly still wondering at how much I love the ending to this series. It fits. It was so bittersweet, so right and yet so full of tears. I´m still stunned, simple as that.

Twilight´s Dawn is made up of four stories.
For all the descriptions, check Anne Bishop´s website.

The first story, Winsol Gifts, was pretty much a bittersweet story about Jaenelle and Daemon, and about Jaenelle and Saetan. Lighthearted and sweet, it´s a story about family and the holiday celebrations in the SaDiablo household. It´s also a story about honouring Witch.

The second story, Shades of Honor, I enjoyed because of it being a Surreal story and because of it being an Eyrien story. The Blood as a society are different from ours. The Eyrien race however, are even more different due to their warlike nature and of course, their wings. I pretty much thought of Klingons when first reading about Eyriens, and in a way, that description fits. Honour is important to the Blood, and to Eyriens very much so as well. When one breaks the code of honour and the rules the Blood live by, it has consequences.

The third story, Family, starts off with Lady Sylvia and her two sons visiting in another part of the Realm, includes a tour of Hell and shows Jaenelle at her best -as a Queen and a Healer. It also has an amazing part for Tersa (yup, chicken...), a witch I´d love to read more about.

The fourth story, The High Lord´s Daughter, was one I brought the tissues out for. And yes - I definitely cried! There were tears for Jaenelle and for Saetan. Lots of tears for Daemon as well. There were tears for Surreal too, but different tears. The best part however, was the huge smile when I met the High Lord´s daughter. And an even bigger smile when I met her friends.

As with all of Anne Bishop´s books, I didn´t want the story to end. I didn´t want to stop reading, and as soon as I finished the book I wanted to start at the beginning again, to take in all the details I missed the first time I read it.

I can´t say more than this: Thank You.
Thank you Anne for bringing me joy through your work for over a decade, for letting all your readers into your amazing world, and for giving us characters we can laugh and cry with, learn and grow with, and most of all - that we care about and want to hear from, just as if they were our own family.
