Highway or Stairway...

This made me laugh. And nod. A lot. And exclaim "Oh God, that's amazing" in a high-pitched voice. Not sure why that last bit was important but hey, I felt like tellin' the world... A photo posted by Kristin Chenoweth (@kchenoweth) on Apr 15, 2015 at 10:25pm PDT

Review of The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone

Image
The Kind Diet: A Simple Guide to Feeling Great, Losing Weight, and Saving the Planet by Alicia Silverstone My rating: 5 of 5 stars Enjoyed reading this book and checking out the recipes. Before starting to read, I already agreed with a lot of what Alicia Silverstone says about the way we eat, what we put in our own bodies and the way we (humans) treat, use and abuse other living beings. A lot of what this book explains makes sense to me and sounds very logical. Still, I'm not an expert on nutrition or anything like that, so judge for yourself! I highly recommend reading The Kind Diet, if only because it's important that we all think about what we eat and where our food really comes from. View all my reviews Goodreads may not be the place to share my thoughts on eating meat or consuming dairy, however my personal blog - most definitely the right place! I'm not much of a meat-eater myself. Would say I'm about 95% vegetarian, actually. If not more than that...

Books books books!

I love it when a plan comes together... Err... No, wait... I mean... I love it when someone else likes books / authors I like! Six authors mentioned on this list of Paranormal Staff Picks. And five of those six write books (and series and short stories and...) I really, really really (really, REALLY really) enjoy! Five authors I love and one I've never read. Guess I know whose books I'll be looking up today! * Doing a Happy Dance while heading over to Goodreads... * Check out Paranormal Staff Picks from Hope Ellis - Penguin USA Blog Posted by Anne Bishop's Courtyard on Friday, 12 June 2015

A Flower Does Not Think...

If only humans thought more like flowers... Errr acted like... Errr wait no, is that what I meant?... "A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms." #quote pic.twitter.com/iWQ2lftpwh — The Quote Today (@TheQuoteToday) June 9, 2015

Today is Anne Frank's Birthday

#AnneFrank Hatred killed her yet she saw the good in others. She continues to inspire me. https://t.co/vnYGoc1JOC — Nicole M. Verhaaf (@nimavenl) June 12, 2015 Anne Frank would have turned 86 today. Note To Self...

Note To Self: Use knife to cut vegetables, not to slice finger. 2nd Note To Self: Tomatoes good. Tomato sauce good. Hey why is it red I didn't spill any tomato there... Oh wait because I cut my finger. .. Blood sauce bad. 3rd Note To Self: When cooking, the pot on the stove with boiling water in it is hot. Hot means auchie ow auw ow = bad. Really: Duh. Remember not to to touch. 4th Note To Self: Walking away from kitchen while cooking is not advised. Sitting down to write notes to self is fine, usually, just not when it makes you forget about stirring. 5th Note To Self: Remember note number three. And for crying out loud, don't pick up a hot pot with your bare hands, you will hurt your fingers. 6th Note To Self: That pot holder hanging on the hook by the stove... Use it... 7th Note To Self: No, that cloud does not look like Drogon. Really, it doesn't. Which doesn't mean it wouldn't be cool to ride a ... Cooking! You're cooking! Stop dreaming ...

Review of Rough Beasts of Empire by David R. George III

Image
Rough Beasts of Empire by David R. George III My rating: 4 of 5 stars Third Typhon Pact book focusing on Spock on Romulus, the Romulan people, Benjamin Sisko and the Tzenkethi. I enjoyed the Spock part of the story and loved reading about the Romulans - they're always interesting. Scheming, devious, always several steps ahead and never disclosing all they know. Would have liked more Donatra time, though. Bringing the Vulcans and Romulans closer feels logical and sensible (in general, not just in this book) as they're basically 'cousins' who chose different paths in life, yet this book left me thinking that perhaps reunification wasn't all that necessary or even desirable. If the idea was to convey the (general?) Romulan view of possible reunification - why would we, we're fine as we are - then bravo and well done, I agree with the Romulans. Missed getting into Spock's head and really understanding what motivates him to be where he is. Found the Sisko part o...

A YouTube video by NASA showing off some of the beauty of our planet. So many gorgeous, amazing and stunning images from all around the world. Loved this video!

Photo Challenge #03 - Flowers : The Results

Image
Just sittin' here, livin' life A few days ago I posted the first photo of my third Photo Challenge. Still deciding what the challenge would be about exactly, I narrowed it down to either do Flowers, Life or Yellow. I took several photos of yellow things yet yellow didn't do it for me this week. I biked and walked past several very interesting animals. Spotted a stone elephant in a stranger's garden, a photo of a dog in a window and a gorgeous cat wanting to play. Yet animals... Maybe another day. I ended up choosing flowers. Flowers brighten our world and always make me smile. Here are a few flower photos which I hope you'll enjoy. Yes, they're a little late - I forgot all about posting the Challenge photos, so sue me. All of these photos were taken on the same day while out enjoying the sunshine, the gorgeous weather and the beauty of nature. Remember to enjoy the beauty of nature and to cherish the flowers in your life! Daisies in the Gra...

To Miss Westside Would Be Outrageous...

Spent several hours on Skype today, talking to New Zealand. Well okay, about five hours. Thanks, Skype! Thanks, internet! As we emailed back and forth to make plans for when to talk, my friend suggested we talk my (European) morning, her (Kiwi) evening. We're currently ten hours apart, so planning for 'when' makes sense. As she was the one to suggest the time, I agreed. One question, though: Won't you miss Westside if you're talking to me? Hey, I may be on the other side of the world but there are some Kiwi programs I keep up to date with! I asked again during our Skype chat as my friend used to be as mad about Outrageous as I was (and am). Oh, I'll watch it later , she tells me. Good! Glad to see that some things don't change! Speaking of Westside - An anonymous commenter posted a link to a YouTube video in response to an earlier blog post I wrote about Westside . The video had been removed by the time I clicked the link however I suppose it was probabl...

Shining Sunset Sky

Image
Biking home two days ago, I couldn't help myself and simply had to stop to take a photo of the setting sun, shining up from behind a cloud. That evening I saw two photos on Facebook that showed the same sky, photos that were taken over twenty kilometres away from where I took this photo. It made me wonder how many people saw (and loved!) this beautiful sunset. How many looked up in wonder, how many smiled, how many stopped, even if only for a minute,to gaze up in amazement? How many stopped worrying, stressing or running around and just spent a moment adoring nature and the beauty on display in the sky above? Shining Sunset Sky | Nimavenl
