Reading... And not much else...
I've been reading a lot the last few weeks. I wrote about it briefly - in this 09 August 2015 post - however didn't elaborate all that much. I haven't even updated Goodreads (which is where I keep track of what I read and want to read) to show or share what I'm reading. Those who know me won't be surprised that I'm reading Marion Zimmer Bradley's Darkover series and loving it. Starting to get to the last few books and have to say I almost want to take a break from reading just so the series will last longer!
All this reading means I haven't been blogging much, haven't shared many posts on Twitter and have barely updated Facebook. And honestly, while I try to keep up to date with what's going on in the real world, I find myself thinking more about what's going on in MZB's fictional world than our real one. So, here's a quick post today with a few quotes about reading... The quotes were all found on Goodreads.
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.”
― Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
“I find television very educating. Every time somebody turns on the set, I go into the other room and read a book.”
― Groucho Marx
“Think before you speak. Read before you think.”
― Fran Lebowitz, The Fran Lebowitz Reader
“The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours”
― Alan Bennett, The History Boys: The Film
“Reading is the sole means by which we slip, involuntarily, often helplessly, into another's skin, another's voice, another's soul.”
― Joyce Carol Oates
“Literature is the most agreeable way of ignoring life.”
― Fernando Pessoa, The Book of Disquiet
