My Inner Geek Rejoices

I know, I know... It's been around for quite some time and I'm only discovering it now... I'm late to the party! But... That doesn't mean I can't gush about it!

Retro Phase Shift is a science fiction blog with lots of posts about (just to name a few shows) Doctor Who, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, Stargate, Defiance, Babylon 5 and Torchwood. Just reading the names of some of my favourite shows and knowing that others enjoy them too, makes me happy. Yes, really. (Is this a good moment to insert an "oh, the feels" comment? No? Ah, okay...) Reading some of the posts on this blog is even better than just reading about the blog's existence.
  • Take for instance 4 Good Entry Points to Big Franchises - Friday Four which lists good episodes for first-time viewers watching Stargate, Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who. Seeing these are all shows I watch(ed) and enjoy, this post makes me happy. I may not agree with all the choices for first episodes to watch, however that's the beauty: I don't have to agree, seeing the fun and the happiness comes from reading someone else's views and opinions.
  • Another post I found and liked: What Could Have Been: The Sarah Connor Chronicles Season 3? Shared Universe? which delves into the world of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The show was cancelled, leaving myself and many other fans with a great deal of frustration and many unanswered questions. Season Two ended with a huge cliffhanger as John Connor, throughout the Terminator franchise seen as THE leader of the human fight against the machines, travelled into the future only to find out that nobody knew who he was... And that the human girl who'd served as the 'blueprint' for Cameron was right there, alive and kicking. The Sarah Connor Chronicles could have had a ridiculously amazing third season, that's for sure! I am still waiting for a satisfying conclusion to the show and can't help but hope that one day we'll find out what could have, should have and might have happened in Season Three.
  • Last but not least, another Friday Four post, this one entitled 4 Biggest Retcons–Friday Four. Retcon stands for retroactive continuity and, as explained by The Free Dictionary, it is "The depiction of fictional events, as in a television series or comic book, that entail a revision of the narrative presented in an earlier instalment." This post looks at retcons from Star Trek, Doctor Who, Star Wars and Stargate. While I may not be a Star Wars fan, I do know enough about the franchise that even this part of the post made sense to me. The other three retcons are topics I've wondered about myself and enjoyed learning about.
All in all - If one visit to RetroPhaseShift provides me with three interesting and fun posts to read and share, then I can't wait to see what the future brings.
