Ancestors of Avalon - Marion Zimmer Bradley
I picked up my very first Marion Zimmer Bradley book about 14 years ago.
The Mists of Avalon was an eye-opener for me, and since my first experience of MZB's amazing story-telling abilities, I've made sure to pick up a book written by her at least once a year.
Whether she writes about Avalon, Atlantis, Darkover or Truth Jourdemayne's America - I am fascinated, inspired, and awed. I write down quotes from the books, look up more information about things written about in the books, and find myself adding places from the books to my "Places I want to visit" list.
Each and every time I read a book by MZB I love it and finish the final page with a feeling of intense pleasure, yet also with deep regret that the story doesn't go on and on and on.
My experience with this book was no different.
It was interesting, thought-provoking and a real page-turner. The rich detail, history, character development and subplots only added to the story, while the list of characters and the map provided helped me make sense of all the different names, places and character relationships.
Found out from reading this books that MZB wrote another Atlantis story in the 50s entitled Web of Darkness. Am looking forward to reading that (assuming of course that I can actually find a copy), and re-reading the entire Avalon series. Hopefully some time soon!
