slash resting place for the most terrifying and insane Daleks ever...) to deactivate the failing force field that is protecting the planet so the Dalek parliament can destroy the planet before the force field fails completely and all the insane Daleks get out...
The Doctor, Amy and Rory are helped by Oswin, a young woman stranded on the planet a year ago. She's stranded in an escape pod right at the heart of the Dalek planet. It is the crash landing of her ship the
Alaska (still on the surface of the planet) that damaged the force field around the planet. The big problem with the planet is that it is covered in a nanogene cloud which means that anyone not protected by a special bracelet will slowly be transformed into a Dalek...
As the episode progresses, we get a look at the amazing space Oswin lives in. I really like what the designers did with the place. She's got an entire kitchen where she bakes soufflés (or tries to at least), there's a space to sleep and a control booth where we see her most of the time when she's helping out Rory, Amy and The Doctor.
The end of the episode when The Doctor attempts to rescue Oswin was a big reveal to me. I hadn't actually seen that particular plot twist coming (silly of me, I know) however that had more to do with attempting to watch the episode online while the real world tried to intrude by talking to me (how rude indeed...) than anything else.
This episode marks the first Doctor Who appearance of
Jenna-Louise Coleman who will, from the Christmas Special onwards, portray The Doctor's new companion. It is unsure whether the actress will portray the same character as in this episode, a different version of the character or a completely new character. My guess is option number two. The ending of this episode has me thinking that The Doctor might be feeling the need to "make amends" to Oswin somehow, thus creating the opportunity for her to become his new companion.
