Westside - Outrageous Fortune Prequel
New Kiwi TV show Westside hasn't even aired yet and I'm already wondering when it'll be out on DVD so I can watch it. Although I must admit there's a devil on my shoulder wondering if I ask really (really, really) nicely, perhaps someone in NZ will feel like directing a web cam at their television just so I can watch from over here. Yes, I'm kidding... Blame it on my enthusiasm for what looks to be a great new show!
"There are lamingtons and screwdrivers, sausage rolls and crates of beer, lots of orange, lots of brown, vintage Holdens and Fords. This is Westside, the tale of Ted, his family and his gang, cruising and bruising through the 1970s." (Westside: Outrageous Fortune rewinds the clock | New Zealand Herald, 24 May 2015)This new prequel to the massively successful Outrageous Fortune is set in the 1970s and looks to be just as outrageous as Outrageous. Not to mention funny, shocking and thrilling. The show stars Antonia Prebble as Rita West, David De Lautour as Ted and Esther Stephens as Ngaire Munroe. Lock up your wives and daughters, the Wests are back as never before... You can find Westside online on Twitter (@OFwestside) and on Facebook (Outrageous Fortune and Westside).
"Each episode of Westside is set in a different year, spanning the period from 1974 through to 1979. Given that our upcoming issue of Glory Days is all about the New Zealand home, we selected a few preview images of the period-perfect set as a taste of what's in store when the series launches this Sunday 31st May on TV3 at 8.30pm." (West is best | Glory Days Magazine, 27 May 2015)The Glory Days article has some amazing preview images from the set of the show - do be sure to check them out - the West family home in 70s style looks wickedly retro! Want to know more about the challenges of setting a show in the 70s and getting the decor exactly right - check out the quote and link below the video. To those who willl be watching Westside this Sunday - Have a blast!
"[Westside] comes from the creators of Outrageous, James Griffin and Rachel Lang, and aims to tell the back-story of the Wests set against the backdrop of a decade of social upheaval.
For the production designers, the challenge was creating an environment that was obviously the 1970s, without being cheesy - and on a shoestring budget. [Production Designer Clayton] Ercolano, who has worked in set and prop design since the early days of TVNZ's Avalon studios, found it one of his biggest tests yet."
