Review of Vision in Silver by Anne Bishop
Vision in Silver by Anne BishopMy rating: 5 of 5 stars
I very much enjoyed this book and loved reading more of the adventures of the well-written characters in this series. Meg's development was very interesting to read about; getting to know more of the Others was lots of fun and the way the blood prophets learn to find their place in the world made me both happy and sad. I would love to live in this world and get to know the many Others who inhabit it. The way the Others see the world makes so much more sense than the way the humans live and makes me wish humanity in the real world thought more like the Others in this book. Loving the land and living in harmony with nature and each other makes so much more sense than attempting to destroy, dominate and control both the planet and other beings.
I wrote this last month about the same book and thought I'd include it in this review:
Brilliant. Awesome. Amazing. Heart-wrenching. Sweet.
I love Anne Bishop's work and the intricate worlds she creates - the world of Namid where Meg and the Others live is certainly no exception. The Others are animals to the humans, however in this book, they are vastly superior to humans, something I love. Humans will be humans - destructive and possessive, egotistical and selfish and somehow we've decided that we as humans are better than other living beings, in the world of Meg, humans simply aren't better - not at all. The Others are living beings who care for and about the land, who live together in peace and harmony, who stick together no matter what, who care about justice and honesty - they are not selfish and destructive the way humans are. Of course not all humans are nasty pieces of [choose your word] and we do get to meet humans who care about others and the Others however there aren't many of them. Which makes me very happy that Meg's kind of human exists in this story and that there are people who do care in the real world as well.
